Want to make your friends green with envy? Start by stocking your closet with emerald green-hued apparel and accessories, as Pantone has just christened the jewel tone its “2013 Color of the Year.” (Yes, the world is still devouring and duplicating your monarch-chic, Kate Middleton.) Also projected to pop are mix-and-match prints, full skirts, sheer styles and monochromatic looks—all spotted on the Spring 2013 Fashion Week runways.
2013 will also be the year of the girly girl, according to fashion guru Dawn Del Russo. “Style has continued to move in a more feminine direction with soft fabrics, dresses and pastel tones,” she shares. Of course, feminine doesn’t necessarily have to mean demure: “I’ve been seeing a lot more ‘peek-a-boo’ style dresses with cutouts and a sheer layer over them,” adds Del Russo, who is also the founder of Bella Dawn.
Multi-taskers will get their due, too, with dual-purpose accessories taking center stage. Del Russo cites a Miu Miu handbag that can be worn as a clutch, cross-body bag or even a necklace (thanks to its removable chain). Much of your current wardrobe can also do double duty as well—as numerous looks will carry over from fall, including peplums and leather (which Del Russo notes made a recent appearance on Oscar de la Renta’s runway). Neon will also persist, though Del Russo reveals that the bold look will be toned down a half-notch to be “more muted, more washed out.”
And if you’re not among the style savvy, never fear—you’ll have plenty of inspiration from a select fashion-forward few. “Style-setters that are standing out for 2013 are Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Victoria Beckham and Russian ‘It’ girl Miroslava Duma,” says Del Russo.
