Getting in shape is always a challenge, but with the advent of technologically advanced fitness gear, it’s becoming more fun and more futuristic. Right now, advanced digital pedometers and fitness trackers all the rage. Most of them, including the Fitbit, do similar things. They will track how many steps you take (including stairs), how many calories you burn, and push that information wirelessly to the website (after you’ve joined) and keep a log for you. You can share your results over social media, and even send them to friends and try and “compete” with them.
Other devices, like smart scales, also sync your information to the desired app, giving you a complete fitness picture. You’ll be able to see when you’ve dropped a few pounds, which magically happens to coincide with all that walking you’ve been doing!
In this new digital era, you can even play video games and lose weight! The Wii Fit Plus gets even more fun (and useful) with additional accessories (it comes with just about everything—an Xertube resistance band, wristband and headbands, a yoga mat, balance board, and an adapter to measure all your burning calories).
If you don’t want all that syncing and social media linkage, you can get a good old-fashioned pedometer (well, it’s more advanced than your mama’s pedometer, but not that advanced). It’ll still time you, and track your step count, and tell you how many calories and how much fat you’ve burned. And, if you just want a good heart rate monitor for running, it’s not necessary to join a website and link everything. Advanced heart rate monitors double as watches and can store up to seven days of your information in a tiny gadget that you won’t lose and can use when you’re not exercising.
