Have you looked at the state of your makeup bag lately? What a disgrace. Tried and true as your products are, they’re broken, dirty, half empty and worn. We women are loyal to makeup products that get the job done but half the fun of a beauty regimen should be about fun. Let’s kick it up this season and try some fun new products, like the types we list below.

Call in the Plum-er:

Not just for lipstick—but that’s cute too – this dark, rich shade of purple was seen on the Vera Wang and Derek Lam runways as a smoky eye, too.

Not-There Nails:

Nail art is very en vogue lately and the latest look lets a bit of naked nail show through. Easy to do at home, try a swipe of metallic silver polish on one side of the nail, leaving the rest au natural. Or ask your manicurist to do only a half moon of bright color at the nail bed.

Inky Eyes:

Cat eyes and strong liner will be hot this winter all the way past spring. Go for the darkest, most jet-black hue and experiment with pencil or wet liners. At Tommy Hilfiger, models walked the runway with eyes completely circled in raven, a great look for night.

Crimson Smile:

If it’s been a while since you wore bold red lipstick, it’s time to revisit the look and it’s hotter than ever right now. Carolina Herrera’s models, for instance, paraded down the runway with striking pouts. Go matte and use a clean, new liner and lip brush.

Fresh Brushes:

January is the perfect time to toss your old make up brushes. Old brushes can shed and harbor bacteria, so start off the new year by replacing worn, dirty brushes with clean new ones. You will look and feel better.
