Make Me Blush!

How to create the new, rosy cheek...

BlushYou innocent thing, you. Just a hint at something slightly off color and you blush like a fair maiden in the springtime. Wait, that’s not you? Well, nothing wrong with capturing a bit of your lost innocence and there’s no better way to do that than with cosmetics. Rosy, blushing cheeks are all the rage right now, looking virtuous on the runways of Michael Kors, Dior and Temperley, to name but a few.

This look may seem too “Raggedy Ann” for everyday but, in reality, it’s quite pretty and gives us tired, overworked girls an extra hint of healthy vigor. In addition, this trend is much quicker and easier than fussy eyeliner and eye shadow trends of seasons past. So, even novices can get this right with minimal practice.

The flushed, rosy cheek look works best when it is the only feature played up on the face. Wear it with a hint of mascara and soft, stained lips. Even the hair should appear a bit “undone” to accompany pink cheeks, though brows should still be expertly groomed and managed. That’s never optional.

To apply, choose a shade of blush as close to scarlet as possible, sculpting it from the cheekbones on upwards, towards the temples. Imagine an almost paisley shape on your cheeks, the apples of your cheeks being the roundest part. Apply your blusher first, before adding the more natural lips and eye makeup. This way, you can let the cheeks settle in before adding other elements. You’ll notice that blusher, both powder and cream, can seep into the skin a bit, downplaying the look. Just add more and let it sit again until the right color is achieved. It should look like you’re actually blushing.
