Golden Girls it’s not. Quilts are back on the rack, and not the dated grandmotherly kind either. We’re talking about men’s jackets and coats, here. And, believe it or not, quilted jackets and outerwear are quite in keeping with the military-inspired trends currently in vogue.
Nevertheless, you must proceed with caution, because quilting can add bigtime bulk to your look—meaning you must keep the underlayers as slim as possible, or you’ll resemble the Michelin Man.
The idea is to counter this by ensuring that any layers you wear underneath said quilted coats or jackets are lightweight enough to give you the skinnier frame to start with. So start with lightweight essentials—a thin cotton V-neck, lightweight check shirt or cardigan and then go with the jacket thrown on top.
Opt for neutral and classic colors like black, brown or navy, as they’ll mesh better with the edgy casual look you should be shooting for here, no pun intended. And of course, black is the obvious and easiest choice. It looks more effortless than other colors. And you can dress up the look by layering up top, like with a lightweight V-neck sweater and a scarf, and pair that with slim-fitting jeans.
Finish it all off with some high-quality leather boots and you’re good to go.
