The men’s runway shows might seem a bit outrageous for an average guy, but the clever man knows that trends trickle down. With a bit of care, the spring 2012 runways hold clues that can freshen up any man’s wardrobe. Toni Ferrara, top fashion stylist to stars like Kim Kardashian, Ryan Seacrest and Krisin Chenoweth offers up some tips to take men’s spring trends like neutrals, blues, brights, a relaxed silhouette, checks and patterns and work them into a simple, everyday man’s closet.
“Even the not-so-brave man can find pieces for spring and summer,” says Ferrara. “Break up a basic khaki suit by wearing the blazer, with pushed up sleeves, with a white v-neck and gray jeans. Or try a light blue linen button up with the khaki pants and boat shoes.”
Ferrara suggests color in the form of brightly hued denim. “Try a patterned shirt with a green jean and navy blue sneakers or a navy blue jacket with a tee shirt, green jeans and white sneakers.”
Celebrities are already heading into next season like Justin Bieber in a Louis Vuitton leather and denim jacket or Matt Damon in blue on the Today Show.
To try a bit of your own fashion update, Ferrara suggest five key pieces that will take any man’s closet into spring. “Go blue from bright polos to a blue trouser,” she says. “Incorporate a checkered pattern blazer into your ensemble, transition into fall with a suede button up and try linen or soft cotton shirts in off white. You can even work in a mesh cardigan in place of a boring oversized hoodie.”
