Women often ask us to how they can utilize staples in their wardrobes from one season to another. As we shop a bit more in the winter months, for instance, what items are a good buy now but can last into early spring, too? This time around, perhaps surprisingly, the answer is suede. A winter staple that was seen all over the spring/summer catwalks, suede, in all its forms, is one of your best and most versatile buys this season.

What makes soft, supple suede a tad different this time around is the breadth of colors it comes in. Not only is suede being seen in typical sandy, dark colors, Derek Lam also showed coats in thin suede of violet while Jason Wu did suede wrap dresses in electric blue.

In keeping with the slightly retro 70s vibe that suede tends to bring with it, Gucci showed crops and kimono tops, all in suede, while other designers emphasized topstitching and embroidery with their suede offerings. Other suede faves included button down suede shirts, belted suede knee-grazing jackets, suede skirts and high slit dresses.
And, of course, don’t forget suede bags, shoes, boots, belts and even headbands.

Finally this season, it looks like suede is joining leather in becoming a thin, multi-season material.
