Texture makes a seasonal statement…

With fall well established and winter on the horizon, we are well and truly into layering season. Every year brings us new trends to snuggle up in, and this year it’s all about touchable texture. Nubby, cabled, and outsized weaves have us craving cooler temperatures to don the haute seasonal looks.

“Puckered” and “pilled” aren’t words one wants to associate with their pullovers, but textures like bouclé, open, and other novelty weaves are all about unique hands and imperfect beauty. These heavily-textured knits were shown on the runway in layers, such as a slouchy, chunky cardigan over a ribbed day dress, ensemble-making scarves, and even pants and leggings. We love the idea of mixing textures and the softness knits impart, and we implore you to pile on these pieces.

Tailored styles got the textured treatment in tweed, suede, and shearling outerwear. These “reach out and touch me” textures are as practical as they are chic, ideal for keeping cozy with a bit of pizzazz. Look for work wear in heavier wools, like the aforementioned tweed for a retro menswear power look at the office, and top off your less than covered up cocktail frocks with heavyweight coats in faux or real skin fleeces for a touch of the exotic.

The feel of a garment can be just as inspiring as its cut or color. For your best bet in form and function this season, texture (and tons of it) is key for a scene-stealing look.
