If you’re like most Americans, you’ve got at least one road trip planned this summer. And while you could just use the camera on your smart phone to document all your fun times, devices made specifically for photography and video are always going to be far superior to your phone’s camera—and will hold more images, too.
The possibilities are endless. Get a simple straight shooting video cam, which fits in your pocket, but has cool extras, like the ability to tag photos and share them on social media websites. Or opt for something more robust, which shoots the highest possible quality videos and has more than one memory card slot to hold almost 24 hours worth of video. You can even get funky with your video: there are 3D video cams (don’t expect Avatar quality, son!), and cams that’ll make it look as if you shot it on a Super 8.
If you’re family is not up for a video camera documenting their every move, they might be more comfortable with an old-fashioned still cam. You can get a simple, classic point-and-shoot that will definitely do the job, with very few bells and whistles; conversely, there are now models that make it possible to upload everything directly to Facebook over WiFi or Bluetooth just as you do your smart phone. Or, go the old school route. You call it Instagram; we call it Polaroid. (The best part is waiting that minute for the picture to process.) Shake it, shake it!
