Socks. For some reason they seem to be a tricky accessory for men, often wearing the wrong pair with their outfit. Gone are the days of boring socks - black, navy, and brown can now be switched out for bright colors and bold patterns. And we’re here to tell you how.
A word on white. First, let’s get this straight: white socks are for sports. Not for sandals (don’t even get us started on socks with sandals). Not for loafers. And certainly not for shorts. Will you be breaking a sweat? Wear white socks. Doing anything else? Don’t.
To match or not to match. Typically, men think they should match their socks with their shoes. In reality, they should match your pants, with jeans being the only exception. Black pants means black socks; blue pants, blue socks; etc. The reason? Socks that don’t match your pants break up an otherwise well-coordinated outfit.

The bold and the bright. If you’re looking to spice up your sock wardrobe, there are limitless options: think bold solid colors, patterns like paisley, and even novelty socks with characters and logos. It’s all about when you wear them. Obviously, certain occasions - such as a serious business meeting or a funeral - call for a more subdued sock. But if you’re dressing for date night, work in a more casual environment, or are even headed to a wedding, a fun pair of socks can be just the right statement. If you’re just warming up to the idea, start with a classic pattern like argyle in a bright blue or green. Feeling bold? Jazz it up with a pink and orange paisley - just make sure to keep the rest of your outfit simple.

Coordination is key. Don’t mistake “coordinate” with “match.” When it comes to coordinating, the main rule is to stick with colors that work well together (think blue and green, orange and red, etc.). For example, if your shirt has a bit of blue in it, pick a pair of blue and green striped socks.
