5 Tips for Wearing a Sweater Dress

When temps are below freezing and snow is on the ground, all you want to wear are things that are warm and comfy. But unfortunately, yoga pants and sweatshirts aren’t acceptable attire in most offices. That’s why we’re showing you how to incorporate a sweater dress into your daily wardrobe. Combining the coziness of a sweater with the polished look of a dress, this look will take you wherever you need to go - no matter the temperature.

All About Legs

The great thing about sweater dresses is they can be worn with bare legs or patterned tights, depending on your comfort level and, of course, the weather. A pair of patterned tights, especially of the lace variety, can be very flattering on any legs, giving them a sleek, toned look.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

Whether you slip on some sexy heels or slip into OTK (over-the-knee) boots, you really can’t go wrong. Patent leather or suede gives a nice contrast to the knit texture of sweaters, as does the sleekness of a nice, chic shoe.

Find Your Fit

Sweater dresses come in two main shapes: oversized and chunky or more fitted. Think about what you feel comfortable in and where you’re headed. Meeting friends for brunch? Choose a loose style paired with tall boots. Going to the office? A fitted sweater dress looks perfectly polished with a sharp blazer.

Texture, Texture, Everywhere

Sweater dresses come in all sorts of textures from the uber chunky to the sleek and silky. Again, it’s all about what makes you comfortable and whether you want something laid back or formal. An added bonus? The finer the knit, the easier it is to transition it into spring.

No matter how you choose to wear it, the sweater dress is sure to become a piece of clothing you’ll reach for again and again.
