How to bring the passion of the World Series to your home with your own Series party...

By Bryan Schatz

baseball playerJust because the official host of the World Series is the MLB doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the series at home. This year, step up to the plate and have a party. It’s really not that complicated.

“The most successful parties are thrown by people who get excited about the details,” says Katie Carleo, owner of the event planning company, Carleo Events. “And some of the most important details are the activities you can all take part in.”

Though the focus of the party is the game, it’s fun to test each other’s knowledge with some baseball trivia and offer World Series memorabilia as the prize. If everyone pitches in $5, a betting pool can grow quickly for bets on which team wins, how many runs are scored and so on. Most fitting, however, is breaking out the ball and gloves. Nothing beats taking part in the sport itself.

Carleo suggests your guests arrive an hour before the game. It gives everyone time to participate in the activities and grab some food. “And let’s face it, a World Series party is nothing without great food,” she says. “What are your favorite items to grub on while at the game? Hotdogs, nachos, corn-dogs, beer, lemonade, the list goes on and on.” Fire up that grill and let ballpark dogs roast. You know everyone’s ravenous. “And just like at a stadium, have snacks available for munching on throughout the game—the peanuts, the popcorn and the crackerjacks.”

Don’t overlook creative invitations and decorations, Carleo says. “Adding visual interest in different places and letting decorations transform your space sets the mood for the party.” Write invitations on baseball cards and choose party supplies with your team’s colors. Definitely bring out all of the sports memorabilia you own.

Your living room isn’t the ballpark, but your World Series party can still be a home run. “If you plan it, they will come,” says Carleo. “Get excited about your party—people will have a blast and will be waiting for the next one!”
