There are plenty of holiday specials being broadcast between now and New Year’s and that’s certainly a low-maintenance way to keep the kids busy, but why not have a little fun together and form lasting memories and mementoes instead? There are tons of holiday crafts easy enough for kids of every age and ability level.
Here, we gathered a few of the best...
Bring on the Bling
What’s a Christmas tree without balls? Sure, you could go the plain route, or you could, with some inspiration and the right supplies, you could end up with a whole box of custom ornaments. Buy a box of inexpensive baubles, and go to work with glue, glitter, sequins, and puffy paint.
Spinning a Tale
A menorah doesn’t have to be the standard candelabrum. Hand-decorated spools can help you wind your way through the festival of light. Embellish the empty spools with paint, glitter, yarn, you name it. If you don’t sew or won’t have eight spare spools lying around by December 8, fear not. Craft stores sell wooden ones, sans thread. For a sweet version, check out an example from Parents.
Easy as Pie (Well...Cookies)
If you can make holiday cookies, you can make holiday ornaments, too. All you need are cookie cutters, baker’s clay, paints and varnish. Make the clay, cut the shapes, bake and decorate. It’s really that simple. To make them even more precious, glue on current photos of the kiddos and make sure you mark the year on the back!
The crafts are going to be a bit messy, but fun stuff almost always is. Put some newspaper down under the table, roll up everyone’s sleeves, and get to it!
