“Right now, I’m loving the ‘60s, Marilyn Monroe lashes for a glam evening out,” exclaims celebrity makeup artist Scott Barnes. “To get the look, create a nice ‘cat’ line with a liquid liner, then get individual or strip (for more drama) lashes and work them towards the outside of the eye.” Scott loves using L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes or Armani Eyes to Kill mascara, to create this look.
If you want to play up your pout, go for a bold, red lipstick. Celebrity makeup artist, and the man behind Skinn Cosmetics, Dimitri James, says the secret to perfecting this sultry lip is finding a shade of red that suits the intensity of your skin, hair color and your correct undertone (warm, neutral or cool). “For instance, warm reds contain yellow and have more of an orange to brick hue, and are usually worn easily by most gals. Cool reds contain blue and look more intense, especially on pale skin. They’re also more of a statement, so should be worn with a light eye.” Neutral reds, on the other hand, he says, are true clear reds. “These are actually the brightest reds, however they look soft on the face.”
A rule of thumb when wearing red lips: go easy on the eyeshadow and blush, and emphasize the eyes with a heavy black lash to balance the face, advises Dimitri. Black eyeliner also does the trick.
