Thanksgiving is but a few weeks away, and it’s never too early to plant the seeds for a beautiful table display. Flowers are sure to lend a fresh, bright feel to any dining space, and should be an integral part of any hostess’s décor plan.
Though the array of popular flowers is wide, common Thanksgiving favorites include sunflowers, autumn lilies, tulips, roses, mums, and hypericum berries in hues of orange, red, and gold. It’s all about bursts of color: “Color is huge this season,” says Brandi Creason, a design expert and faculty member at The Art Institute of California - Hollywood. “To add a festive feel, you can paint branches in shades of yellow, orange, red, and brown to place around the home or in clay pots.”
Of course, you’ll also need something festive for showcasing your chosen blooms, like a brightly patterned or intricately textured vase. (Think Marimekko or Murano-esque handblown glass.) For an alternate, more rustic look, you can sheath a simple column vase in a handwoven sleeve.
And for the gift that keeps on giving, consider investing in quality faux flowers that can become a permanent table centerpiece. Not only are they convenient and easy—but they’ll keep your fond Thanksgiving memories alive all year long.
